It is also used for the irrigation of more than 2.700 hectares of land and holds 170 million cubic metres of the most precious liquid on the planet. It covers an area of 700 hectares and has the hamlet of Los Romanes on its eastern bank from where there are breathtaking views across the turquoise waters to the mountains of the Sierra Alhama and Tejeda, snowcapped during the short winter season. It was constructed on the River Guaro watercourse and is also fed by the tributaries Sabar, Salia Bermuza, Rubite and Almáchar.
